in spite of thought and reason, we dream (2010)
in spite of thought and reason, we dream was composed in September 2010 as a part of an Undergraduate Research/Creative Fellowship at Morehead State University (KY). The initial study of the creative process through the fellowship and subsequent exercises eventually led to the conception of the work. Meditative in nature, the work creates an overall dialogue between the solo trombone and piano, with organic melodic contours unfolding over (at times) a minimalistic texture.
In 2011, in spite of thought and reason, we dream was awarded the Kentucky Music Educator’s Association Collegiate Composition Award, and was performed at the annual conference by Justin Croushore (trombone) and Dr. Eunbyol Ko (piano).
